(Click here for an alphabetical course listing) Courses This course provides students with the knowledge to identify and understand modern extremist groups in the United States, their evolution, and their various criminal activities and operations. The instructor will discuss significant individuals in the modern extremist movements and noteworthy cases or investigative strategies which have been used to combat extremist violence. Students of this course will gain an understanding of practical and effective approaches to gang and street-crime enforcement operations for patrol and field personnel. The course will cover relevant case law governing consensual contacts, reasonable suspicion, and developing probable cause. Additionally, students will be exposed to time-tested, proactive field enforcement strategies to suppress violent drug and gang related criminal activities and the threat these activities pose on our communities. This course is designed for patrol officers and seasoned investigators alike. Students will learn to capture their investigations effectively through proper documentation and evidence preservation. They will also learn to develop their professional resume and expert witness portfolio, along with learning proper, professional, and effective courtroom testimony. Students will learn the history, traditions, and current activities of Sureño gangs throughout the United States. The class will also examine the many practical differences in Sureño criminal operations in various regions, their relationship with the Mexican Mafia and other prison-based gangs, and case studies from different regions. This course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of criminal street gangs as well as the fundamentals of effective gang investigation. Students of this course will learn relevant definitions, overall gang recognition, proper documentation and classification of criminal gangs and gang members, how to develop expertise for affidavits and courtroom testimony. The course will also provide an overview of influential gangs nationwide as well as a current perspective of gangs in the instruction area. This course will will provide students with insight into the structures and practices of gangs and organized crime groups. Students will also focus on a variety of narcotic investigation strategies and how to select the most effective strategy for a specific organization. Students will learn to develop their expertise and properly document same to assist with future affidavits and courtroom testimony. In the law enforcement arena of present day, law enforcement professionals in every capacity will encounter members of criminal gangs on a regular basis. Whether you are a patrol officer, correctional officer, parole or probation officer, or any other member of the law enforcement community, you will be exposed to gang members and the threat they pose to our communities. Students will develop a comprehensive understanding of both criminal street gangs and contemporary drug cartels including the history and current activities of each. The course will also examine the historical and contemporary relationships between criminal street gangs in the United States and Mexican Drug Cartels. Human Trafficking, both nationally and internationally, has evolved into a global industry with annual profits of more than a hundred billion dollars. This illegal industry, once dominated by Asian and Eastern European crime groups, as well as organizations from Latin America, has now become a growth industry for Mexican Drug Cartels as well. Additionally, those who are trafficked into the United States are often used by these groups to support other criminal enterprises. This course will provide students with an understanding of the history and current activities of international organized crime groups and transnational criminal organizations with specific emphasis on their activities in the United States. The course will examine the often-complex relationships between international organized crime groups including Drug Cartels and Transnational Gangs with the Criminal Street Gangs of the United States. |
