From their origin in the streets of Los Angeles and other parts of Southern California, the Sureño gang population has spread to every region of the country and beyond.  Generations-old gangs such as Florencia, Eighteenth Street, Mara Salvatrucha, and many others now impact criminal activities across the country.  Students of this class will learn to:

• Understand the origins of the Sureño movement
• Understand the influence of the Mexican Mafia on Latino Criminal Gangs
• Identify the categories of Sureño gangs and the indicators of their activities
• Recognize the relationships between cartels, organized crime groups, and Sureños

The wide-reaching effects of Sureño gangs touch every region of the United States and bring significant crime to the areas to which they expand.  This course is a must for anyone who works in federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement, correctional officers, parole and probation, prosecutors, and intelligence personnel.
